Today we share an easy recipe; 3 Layer chocolate crumb bars that combine light quick pastry with rich chocolate.

Not only is it absolutely delicious but it's super easy to make and takes less than 30 minutes to munch on this chocolatey goodness!

what do you need to do THE 3-Layer chocolate crumb bars

 Ingredients 

For the shortcrust pastry layer:

● 3 cups (12 oz/380 g) flour

● 3/4 cup (6 ounces/150 grams) sugar

● One egg, large

● 0.4 ounces/10 grams of baking powder

● 1 teaspoon (0.2 fl oz/5 ml) vanilla extract or vanilla sugar

● One cup (30 gram) oil

 For the chocolate layer: 

● 3.5 ounces /100 grams dark chocolate

● 2 tablespoons (1 oz/28 g) cocoa powder

● 1/4 cup (2 fl oz/60 ml) water

● 1/4 cup (2 fl oz/ 60 milliliters) oil

● 1 teaspoon (5 grams) of instant coffee

● 1/4 cup (2 ounces/50 grams) sugar

Why do I divide the dough into three layers?

Because you will be using 1/3 of the dough on the cake for the crumb. So you'll need to divide the dough into thirds, put two of them in the pie dish, and crumble the rest over the chocolate layer.

How many slices does this recipe make?

Cornstarch adds extra crunch to the eggplant when it's fried. Cornstarch can be used instead of flour as it is 100% starch and has a crisper texture. Flour is only about 75% starch.

Ingredients

For the shortcrust pastry layer

  •  3  Cups  Flour  (12 ounces/380 grams) 
  •  ¾  Cup  Sugar  (6 ounces/150 grams) 
  •  0.4  Ounces  (10 grams) baking powder 
  •  1  Teaspoon (0.2 fl oz/5 ml) vanilla extract or vanilla sugar
  •  1  Cup  (30 gram) oil 

For the chocolate crumb bars layer

  •  3.5  Ounces  (100 grams) dark chocolate 
  •  2  Tablespoons (1 oz/28 g) cocoa powder
  •  ¼  Cup (2 fl oz / 60 ml) water
  •  ¼  Cup (2 fl oz / 60 ml) oil
  •  1  Heaping Teaspoon  (5 grams) instant coffee 
  •  ¼  Cup  (2 ounces/50 grams) sugar 
  •  2  eggs, medium 
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).

To make the doug

  • In a large bowl add all Quick Pastry ingredients and whisk until smooth.
  • Divide dough into 3 portions. Set one aside and add the other two to the pot.
  • Flatten the dough in the pan with your fingers or a spatula.

To make the chocolate ganache

  • Add all ingredients except eggs to saucepan.
  • Heat the ingredients and mix them well until smooth.
  • Remove the pan from the stove and add the eggs. Blend until smooth.

To assemble and cook the cake

  • Pour chocolate mixture over dough in pan. Smooth it out with a spatula.
  • Take the dough you set aside earlier and press it over the chocolate.
  • Slide the pan into the oven and bake for about 20 minutes.
  • Remove from pan and allow cake to cool before slicing.
